The Snug's 10th Birthday Celebrations #weareten

A few weeks back I was invited to the Snug's 10th birthday celebrations, at the original Snug bar in Cambridge!

I arrived with my +1 to this cosy bohemian bar on Lensfield road, full of chatter and friendly blogger faces such as Simple Little Pieces, The Middle Sister and #100DaysNoTV

As a self confessed foodie and cocktail lover this place was perfect! The appetisers ranged from home made scotch eggs, honey glazed mini sausages and mini burgers to nachos in home made salsa and pittas with olives and paprika hummus. An eclectic mix of comfort foods well presented with a great taste sensation! As for the cocktails I was designated driver, however my trusty +1 could happily sample many a hand crafted cocktail and particularly enjoyed the Pornstar Martini and the Cherry Jack. She also got to sample Minttu- a mint liqueur from Finland which was very refreshing to the palette and due to be served in Snug bars very soon! I stuck with the mocktails which were so good I didn't feel like I was missing out one bit. My real favourite was the Yogi bear, "a honey drizzled glass with blended banana, vanilla syrup, cream, yoghurt and honey, poured in and finished with a banana slice." It sounds like heaven, it tasted like heaven, it was heaven! This particular Snug also has a variety of cask ales and cider which are constantly changing. I can see myself and the hubby taking full advantage of  this in the summer months...

The creators of The Snug Giles Fry and Ashley Moore were there to celebrate in style with champagne flowing and a wonderful cake to cut (which may I say was incredibly delicious). Their success with The Snug on Lensfield Road in 2005 swiftly led to the opening of their bars in Hertford, St Albans, another one in Cambridge on East Road, High Wycombe, Hitchin and soon to open will be one in Ware.

Ten years of the Snug took us back in time with music from 2005. Initially I hadn't realised and was thinking "what a tune, I love all this music" so it appears I'm growing old! I also noticed some fantastic décor going on with top hat lighting and vintage Vogue on the walls, all adding to the eclectic bohemian vibe.

So it leaves me to say happy birthday Snug Bar and thank you for inviting me to be part of your celebrations. You may be ten but your food, drink and atmosphere wouldn't give it away. You're still very much a trendy young thing that I will definitely be returning to!

Have you been to The Snug yet?

Jacket- ASOS

Jeans- New Look
Heels- eBay
Clutch- ARK Cambridge (similar here)

I've worn this get up to a couple of things now, both times revolving around cocktails (I can see a pattern occuring.)

This vibrant and colourful ASOS jacket adds a "pop" of colour to an otherwise black outfit and is an easy way to add some spring vibes. It's a really easy outfit to wear with my bargain heels adding a little somethin' somethin'. Just £14.99 those bad boys cost and surprisingly they're really easy to walk in! I can see me grabbing a nude pair for the summer soon!

So I guess this is my cocktail outfit now. What do you wear when  you go for cocktails?

Last night I went a pre-opening for the new Handmade Burger Co in Peterborough. It opens this Friday and I was very lucky to be invited along with five friends who were more than happy to help me road test the amazing menu.

The re-furbished venue was originally an old still at the end of Westgate Arcade. This particular Handmade Burger Co is the only one of it's kind as all the other restaurants are new but I think the building adds a lot of great character and rustic charm. There's a great outdoor area where they plan to have live bands play in the summer which is just perfect. Food, drink, sunshine and music- what more could you want?

Anyway onto that delicious food... The menu was full of choice, there were so many varieties of burger! Each one is made using fresh 100% prime scotch beef mince (which as you can imagine is incredible), cushioned in a freshly baked sour dough or brioche bun- heaven! There's also a wide selection of chicken dishes and gluten free options too but it seemed a crime not to order a burger. I went for the blue cheese and bacon burger "handmade blue cheese mayonnaise, smoked bacon, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato & red onion". It was cooked to perfection, the blue cheese was just incredible and the bun was wonderfully soft. I was in love. I topped off with a side of sweet potato fries which are just the tits! My friends ordered some other incredible burgers, all happily chowing down with little communication happening due to the sheer food heaven we were all experiencing.

Of course we decided to go the whole hog and order dessert. How could we not? I always say if you're going to do it, do it properly! We all chose sundaes which I must admit I'm not usually a huge lover of but they were amazing. I opted for the brownie and waffle. Perfect bite size chunks of warm brownie and waffle covered in vanilla ice cream, toffee and chocolate sauce, topped with cream. It was lush, I don't even care about the calories, I'm just glad I wore a baggy dress! There are milkshakes on the menu too which sound divine but unfortunately they weren't available due to the equipment not being sent in time. Something to try next time!

On a whole I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience of Handmade Burger Co. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable of the food, providing excellent service. The venue is a cosy relaxed one and the burgers are some of the best I have ever tasted. I would highly recommend you get yourself down to the new venue, appetite at the ready and enjoy a feast of mouth watering food. Just writing about it has made me crave their burgers again so I'll certainly be going back in the very near future!

Pet food convenience- ordering your pet food online with PetShop.co.uk

Pet food c/o PetShop.co.uk

Like most pet parents I love to spoil my cat Zara and dog Harry who I rescued whilst living in Cyprus. If you don't already know we found the cat in a car park and our dog was due to be put down at the local pound because they were full! Since then we have given them lots of love and affection and I'm always on the look out for new products to treat them to. PetShop.co.uk are an online pet supplies website with a delivery service which is fantastic. I'm forever running out of pet food last minute and hurling big bags of food around is a struggle for me (hubby ends up doing it lets be honest). As well as having a great variety and range of brands to choose from they also provide a bottomless bowl service so you can re-order for a schedule that suits you. No more running out of pet food! Harry and Zara have been lucky enough to be sent some food and after opening it for them (damn those opposable thumbs) they were very excited to try!

First off the delivery from PetShop.co.uk was super speedy and arrived the day after ordering- perfect if you suddenly realise you're running low on pet food. It was also packaged really well so there's no worry of anything getting damaged in transit.

As you can probably guess from the photos, Zara was rather curious of the new food at first but it didn't take long before she was chowing down. She was sent Felix Cat Food which contains balanced minerals, a source of Omega 6 and vitamins D & E- all the things your cat needs on a daily basis. It must be delicious to our feline friends as Zara gobbled it down pretty quickly!  She also tried the Harringtons Cat Food which is a great brand for natural wholesome pet food and happily snacked away at this throughout the day between naps. It's a hard life!

I have to say I was particularly impressed with this brand and Harry was too. As soon as I opened the bag and he got a sniff of the food his tale was wagging excitedly. He's normally the type of dog to graze little and often throughout the day (I have no idea if that's the norm or not) but when I set down the bowl he started chowing down at a rate of knots and it was gone!

The reason I particularly like the Huntland Grain Free is because of their philosophy, stating that their food is developed based on the principle that dogs are natural hunters and their digestive systems are designed for a grain free diet. Perfect for my very active working breed springer spaniel. Made in Britain, this bag contained Scottish Loch Salmon with River Trout & Sweet Potato and is freshly prepared with natural ingredients. It's also vet approved for all breeds so you know your dog is getting a quality meal. Harry has been thoroughly enjoying this and can't wait to try the other flavours. I've also noticed a significant improvement in his coat since he's been eating the Huntland Grain Free. It's a lot shinier in appearance he looks generally healthier.

The verdict from Harry and Zara is a 5 out of 5 on the food and delivery from Petshop.co.uk .  I would highly recommend using their delivery service as it's free on orders over £19.99 and they even deliver on Saturdays- perfect if you're like me and have a hectic schedule.

Have you tried petshop.co.uk? What do your pets enjoy eating?
