Strawberries and Creem 2017

Last weekend marked the beginning of the festival season in my diary and kicking it off was Strawberries and Creem festival at Haggis Farm, Cambridge.

Strawberries and Creem 2017

With the festival only being three years old it is one of the smaller ones on the scene but as they say size isn't everything and it certainly packed a punch. With three main stages playing absolute bangers, the atmosphere was electric and emotions were high.

I met up with some of my local blogging pals Pippa from Clashing Time, Sian of Style with Friends and Becca from Rebecca Warboys. Together we all danced like tits and donned plenty of glitter on our faces, ready to party.

We were fortunate enough to have VIP tickets, giving us access to our very own bar area, deck chairs, toilets and more. It was also the perfect spot positioned to see the main stage acts but still have space to boogie.

The weather was gleaming on the day, in fact actually it was a bit sweaty Betty which meant we were forever heading to the bar for drinks. My only complaint about this was I don't think the festival anticipated the volume of punters so queues were pretty long. I however took to buying bottles of prosecco...to myself...yup! But this meant I didn't have to  queue albeit my drinks were a tad warm by the fourth glass and bubbles dissipated. With the drinking comes needing the loo and I'll be honest when I say that the toilets left a lot to be desired... again the queues were long even in the VIP. If there's anything I would change I'd say increase the amount of porta loos and bars at the venue to keep the crowds flowing and the party going.

Headlining the festival was the original Mr Lover Lover Shaggy which was pretty awesome. I'd forgotten how many songs he's released and his stage presence resonated really well with the crowd. It did make me laugh when he shouted "anyone here born in the 70s!?" *silence* "80s!?" *small rumble in the crowd* "90s!?" *crowd goes mad*. Watching him perform on a balmy summers evening as the sun went down was pretty perfect. Other great acts such as Wiley, Mike Skinner and Gentlemen's Dub Club were also performing throughout the festival too. Admittedly not all the music was something I would actively listen to in my day to day but it was perfect for the setting and gave good vibes to the crowd.

Overall I had a blast at this festival. The location is spot on, the atmosphere is brilliant and it's the perfect way to kick off the summer. I'm seriously pumped for Secret Garden Party next month now and I'll definitely be blogging/vlogging that too!

Turtle Bay comes to Peterborough*

A brand new Caribbean bar and restaurant has landed in Peterborough that's got me pretty stoked. Turtle Bay has come to town and lets just say I was extremely thrilled to be invited to their VIP preview dinner.

Turtle Bay Peterborough

Set behind the New Look store in Queensgate, this 180 seat restaurant is something to be excited about. With over 40 rums behind the bar, my inner pirate was released as I tried a variety of cocktails on the menu. Who knew I liked rum so much!? Every cocktail told a different story and the flavours all worked harmoniously together. My favorites had to be the Marley Mojito  and as recommended by our fab waitress- Bahama Mama which I wouldnt have normally gone for but it tasted delicious.

Another thing to note is you can book a table purely for drinks! Making it the perfect destination for a cocktail night- squee!! And it gets better- they have Happy Hour 2 for 1 on cocktails!! It's available from 11:30am to 7pm then  9.30pm until closing time Sunday to Thursday and 11:30am to 7pm then 10pm until close Fridays and Saturdays.

Whilst sipping a cocktail or two, three, four, we nibbled on Jamaican jerk nuts and Jam Rock spiced popcorn with tangy lime flavours.

Food is at the heart of the Turtle Bay experience just like it is within the Caribbean culture. Looking at the amazing menu we wondered how we'd be able to pick just one thing but little did we realise we were in for a treat of sampling each of their best dishes.

The eclectic cuisine has something to offer for everyone. Not a big fan of spice? Not to worry- there are some aromatic choices on the menu that won't blow your socks off. There's of course some fiery foods and a great selection for veggies too! I found I was really rather taken with the sweetcorn fritters which were spicy and beautifully crispy too. Overall, there is a vast variety of bold flavours and rustic dishes, all inspired by the laid back, social outlook of the Caribbean. Some of the signature dishes we sampled were their famous jerk chicken and curried goat, but there is plenty for all palettes to choose from including a new burger menu which I am definitely trying on my next visit.

If you're not feeling the sit down service, Turtle Bay offers take out too which is perfect for a Friday night in with the girls or a date night!

The atmosphere at Turtle Bay is all about relaxing with loved ones and enjoying the lively soulful feel of the place over dinner or drinks. Both Chris and I felt right at home as soon as we entered with staff being incredibly attentive and eager to suggest what would make our dining experience perfect. We even had the head chef come and speak to us to get our opinion on the dishes he had prepared.

When the dessert course came out, I have to say I was dubious... Could Caribbean dessert really be pulled off? I immediately thought of an Indian restaurant with fantastic main courses but forever the disappointing dessert. Was this final course going to let the Caribbean dream down? In short- No. If I could have some more of that Rum and Raisin bread pudding right now I absolutely would. It was so warm and soft and uber comforting! Infused with dark rum and mixed in with cinnamon, brown sugar and raisins, it was absolute perfection and went perfectly with a cocktail and cool vanilla icecream. The dark chocolate brownies were melt in the mouth and totally divine and the Spiced rum and chocolate pot certainly packed a punch!!

After all this cracking food we were feeling suitably stuffed but chuffed to have tried the fantastic menu. The only thing left to do was try a few more cocktails. I mean, it'd be rude not to right?

Chris is something of a rum lover so was asking the staff about the varieties of rum available. They were incredibly knowledgeable having had to try everything on the menu as part of their training and giving a real insight into the flavours and origins of each liquor.

I however was well on my merry way so left Chris to try neat rum whilst I stuck to pretty cocktails and sitting at the bar!

The bar and restaurant itself will easily make you forget you're in the centre of Peterborough and whisk you away to a Caribbean beach front with twinkling fairy lights and rustic decking.

Turtle Bay Peterborough

Overall I cannot rate Turtle Bay highly enough. It's definitely going to be my main source for dinner, drinks and get togethers with friends and family in Peterborough and I cannot wait to return! It opens tomorrow- Sunday 25th June so be sure to get yourself booked in pronto for the Caribbean dream!

On a Wet Wednesday

Who'd have thought this time last week was beautiful sunshine and shorts weather in the UK- being so hot some people of the British public were complaining! Fast forward a week and it's back to the usual wind. rain and wet wet wet.

Jacket and blouse- Matalan
Jeans- F&F
Shoes- H&M
Bag- Radley

The peeks of blooms are stopping my spirits from being dampened and I'm still wearing a pop of colour in my top and tassels of my shoes to keep me in the summertime zone.

I bought these suede flats last year from H&M's premium range. I have to say you can really tell the quality from their usual range with them being real suede and also extremely comfy. I haven't quite jumped on the mini bag trend but my small Radley is a nod in the right direction and surprisingly roomy for it's size.

I hope your week is going well so far. We've made it to half way through the week so it's got to get better from here, plus there's talks of sunshine appearing in time for the weekend!

I feel like this post has turned into a weather forecast slightly so on that note- Ta ra for now!

Style | Get out the Gingham

I have been absolutely loving the weather recently in the UK and trying to embrace some trends this year, one of which being gingham.

New Look gingham smock dress

I'll be honest and say that initially I wasn't keen on this trend. I mean who wants to wear something reminiscent of their childhood summer uniform? That soon changed when I panic bought this smock in New Look an hour before going on an all day hen party. I was instantly draw to it and teamed with a pair of heeled ankle boots and bare legs, it was the perfect day dress to wear on a warm day whilst still looking put together.

In the day I love to throw on a pair of leggings and some cute flats to dress it down and whenever I wear it I always get complimented. Not bad for an impulse buy!

I'm also trying to loose some weight at the moment so this dress is pretty perfect. The loose fit of it makes it forgiving on the tummy area and you look like you've made some sort of effort whilst still being comfy as f*ck.

I've lost 11 lb so far on my weight loss journey and hoping to loose another 3lb in the next week to hit my stone target before an upcoming family wedding! In the meantime I feel so much happier in my skin and seeing the results has really spurred me on.

Anyway that's enough waffle from me. I plan to do some more outfit posts soon so watch this space and there's a food post coming too!
