Wedding Edition: My Rustic Wedding DIYs and first Wedding VLOG!

I can reveal some more wedding stuff now that I am MARRIED!!!!!!!! Our big day was Saturday and I can honestly say it was the best day of my life. Christopher makes me so happy and I am s lucky to be spending the rest of my life with him. Now onto the post!

Whilst in the UK at the beginning of June, I went about finishing off the remainder of the wedding decor. I didn't do DIY tutorials on these bits as I thought they were pretty self explanatory or didn't require much DIYing. I've left this post until now to show you as I didn't want to spoil too many surprises of the wedding for our guests. I hope you enjoy!

The Table Plan

I'm a bit in love with the table plan I created. I wanted to incorporate something rustic into it and after browsing the wonder that is Pinterest, I came across this idea and adapted it to suit our wedding. The crate is actually borrowed from a real farm local to the area which to me gives it an extra special touch. The miniature pegs I picked up at The Range and I picked the photo frame up at a charity shop. I cut card to fit the box with the table numbers I needed and the guests names were added to the table cards a few days before when the table plan had been finalised. As with all my wedding stationary I added the lace effect paper doilies to the card and used the same font as before and twine.  I really love the way this turned out!

Keeping with the rustic theme we have incorporated corn into a lot of our wedding decor, one of those being this old suitcase which I picked up in the charity shop for next to nothing, along with the photo frame. The jug is from QD and the bunting I made from card and twine!

How cute is this type writer? Like seriously!? I found this in my Grandad's shed where he hauded lots of stuff but in this instance it was pretty handy! Granted it doesn't actually work but it's a great prop and we typed the rhyme out in type font on word. We think the retro theme really lnds itself to the wedding also and basically just had to have it as a prop- LOOK AT IT!!

The cards suitcase is again another inspiration from Pinterest. I picked the suitcase up at a boot sale fr #5, total bargain and the woman whom I bought it off insisted I take the lace material for free when she realised it as for a wedding. How sweet is that!? Again I made the bunting and hot glued it into the case. It is the perfect place for guests to place cards, gifts etc and be carried away in the case after the wedding. I love old fashioned suitcases, again I think they look perfect in a rustic wedding setting and think this is such a cute display.

And finally these last two items are linked and an idea we thought up all by ourselves. A Rayment original! We bought a Fujifilm instax camera and film for people to snap their picture and stick into our self adhesive photo album which is actually our guest book. Then write us a note and stick in and voila there;s our guest book sorted. The  camera and film we picked up on eBay, the self adhesive photo album is from Paperchase and the props are from the pound shop. A cheaper alternative to a photo booth and more fun than a bunch of disposable cameras which we'll probably never get developed... Oh and the label on the guest book I of course made and stuck on, again following our stationary theme!

And below we have our wonderful Snap & Chat chalk board which alerts people to our guest book and tells the how to use it in a fun and quirky way. My mum's partner very kindly made the sign and I designed it. Chris can take the credit for the idea, he's actually pretty creative when he puts his mind to things!

So that is some of the bits we made and created for the wedding but if you want to see more, check out my wedding vlog below!

The shirt restructured dress

It's been an age since I've done a crafty post that isn't wedding related! Whilst back in the UK I decided to brave the sewing machine with the help of my mother and try to restructure a shirt into a dress. As a novice sewer with a very basic understanding of a machine, I thought this would be fun way of re-inventing something old into a new garment with some basic sewing skills.

Charity shop shirt

The shirt in question I picked up was a mens XL shirt from the charity shop at £2. The great thing was if I cocked it up I'd only spent a couple of quid so no biggy. I fancied something nautical but with some spare material in mum's box of treasures and the help of my lovely mothership to guide me we created this...

Shirt- charity shop
Straps material- local craft shop
Bandeau- Dorothy Perkins
Espadrilles- eBay

As I am a novice sewer the restructuring was pretty simple, cutting off the sleeves and across the top of the shirt to loose the collar. I then sewed the raw edges over and sewed up the front so it wouldn't gape open around the buttons and added on some sleeves! Mum also helped to add some little tucks in at the front and back to give it a better shape as it falls. Simples! As I say I was looking for a nautical theme but it materialised into more of an America theme with the white stars on the red straps and I love it. It's more of a pinafore dress so I added a plain bandeau underneath. I think it's a great little chuck on dress for the beach or a festival and I'm thinking of wearing this at Secret Garden Party with some crazy sunglasses and a statement lip. Oh and glitter ofcourse!

Have you restructured a shirt or other garments? Let me know!

The Mothers Day DIY Craft

So with Mother's Day being a week today, I thought it'd be most fitting to do a craft for all our lovely mother's out there!

So in case you haven't noticed, my mum's name is Julie! I got the inspiration to make this hanger for her whilst making my wedding hangers (see post here), as she cooed over them and said how lovely they were.

I decided to keep her wooden hanger natural instead of painting it like the wedding ones as it'll match better with whatever she chooses to hang on it. I also opted for lavender as the flower accent as it's her favourite!

To make this hanger you will need:

  • 1 x wooden hanger
  • Jewellery wire or florist wire that is easy to manipulate
  • Silk/ faux flower or whatever decoration you think your mama will like!
  • Jewellery Pliers
  • Wire Cutters
  • Hot glue gun

To Make

1. Sketch out your mum's name onto paper, with enough space each side to anticipate how much wire you will require to fit it to the hanger.

2. Bend your wire to fit the letters you have drawn on the paper. You may need pliers also to make tight bends or create letters e.g. the letter i.

3. Snip the end of your wire, leaving a small excess and measure against the hanger. Leave a small amount of wire each side to slot into the hanger.

4. Next make two small holes in the hanger where the wire will slot into place. A drill is really handy at this point but I unfortunately didn't have one so opted to use a cork screw! I wouldn't recommend this but it's a good back up..ha!

5. Slot the wire into the holes made, snipping any excess wire as required. Hot glue gun into place.

6. Next take your faux flower or decoration of choice and attach onto the wire with the hot glue gun.

And voilĂ , you're finished!

So I hope you guys like this DIY. I think my mum was hinting at me to make her one as she said it'd be lovely to have a nice hanger to put pretty outfits on the day before a special occasion and hang over the door. I know exactly what she means! I do that too!

If you're making any homemade gifts for your mama, please link me to your post or tweet me a pic, I'd love to see!

Super Simple DIY Floral Crown

Thought I'd do a proper craft post today! As you can tell I've made a floral crown! They seem to be very big this summer and perfect for festivals and other summer events! This is literally so so easy to do and I personally really enjoyed making my own. All the items except the purple flowers are from eBay and very cheap too. The purple flowers are off of an old Primark flower head piece (which quite frankly was shit).

So you will need:

A wire headband

Household kitchen scissors

Artificial foam roses with wire stalks

Extra flowers/ accessories if desired.

Step 1: begin by cutting the excess of the wire stalks away, leaving roughly 10cm- 15cm of stem left

Step 2: start wrapping the flowers around the headband. Start from one side, holding the flower head,  wrap the stalk around the headband in a curling motion. Adjust the flower if necessary to face outwardly from the headband. Continue this all the way along the length of the headband.

Step 3: add in any additional flowers and/or accessories in the same way as the roses. Slide the roses along and adjust where necessary. I used wire flowers again and would advise to use wired accessories.

And voila you have a floral crown fit for many summer occasions! It's really that simple and yet they make such a statement. I can't wait to wear mine at festivals in a couple of weeks!

I hope this was helpful, tweet me your photos of your home made floral crowns if you have a go!
