A few weeks back I was invited to the Snug's 10th birthday celebrations, at the original Snug bar in Cambridge!
I arrived with my +1 to this cosy bohemian bar on Lensfield road, full of chatter and friendly blogger faces such as Simple Little Pieces, The Middle Sister and #100DaysNoTV.
As a self confessed foodie and cocktail lover this place was perfect! The appetisers ranged from home made scotch eggs, honey glazed mini sausages and mini burgers to nachos in home made salsa and pittas with olives and paprika hummus. An eclectic mix of comfort foods well presented with a great taste sensation! As for the cocktails I was designated driver, however my trusty +1 could happily sample many a hand crafted cocktail and particularly enjoyed the Pornstar Martini and the Cherry Jack. She also got to sample Minttu- a mint liqueur from Finland which was very refreshing to the palette and due to be served in Snug bars very soon! I stuck with the mocktails which were so good I didn't feel like I was missing out one bit. My real favourite was the Yogi bear, "a honey drizzled glass with blended banana, vanilla syrup, cream, yoghurt and honey, poured in and finished with a banana slice." It sounds like heaven, it tasted like heaven, it was heaven! This particular Snug also has a variety of cask ales and cider which are constantly changing. I can see myself and the hubby taking full advantage of this in the summer months...
The creators of The Snug Giles Fry and Ashley Moore were there to celebrate in style with champagne flowing and a wonderful cake to cut (which may I say was incredibly delicious). Their success with The Snug on Lensfield Road in 2005 swiftly led to the opening of their bars in Hertford, St Albans, another one in Cambridge on East Road, High Wycombe, Hitchin and soon to open will be one in Ware.
Ten years of the Snug took us back in time with music from 2005. Initially I hadn't realised and was thinking "what a tune, I love all this music" so it appears I'm growing old! I also noticed some fantastic décor going on with top hat lighting and vintage Vogue on the walls, all adding to the eclectic bohemian vibe.
So it leaves me to say happy birthday Snug Bar and thank you for inviting me to be part of your celebrations. You may be ten but your food, drink and atmosphere wouldn't give it away. You're still very much a trendy young thing that I will definitely be returning to!
Have you been to The Snug yet?
